tumor response in the mouse B6C3F1, F344 rats and other animal models following exposure to various compounds provide evidence that people exposed to these or similar compounds may be at risk for developing cancer. Although the tumor in mice and humans often morphologically similar, the underlying mechanisms of tumorigenesis often unknown and may vary between species. Therefore, the relevance of tumor response of animals to human health will be better determined if the molecular pathogenesis understood.
The underlying molecular mechanisms leading to carcinogenesis is complex and involves multiple genetic and epigenetic events and other factors. To address the molecular pathogenesis of environmental carcinogens, authors examined mice tumors (eg, lung, colon, mammary gland, skin, brain, mesothelioma) for changes in cancer genes and epigenetic events associated with human cancer. Identification of such changes in a mouse model of chemical carcinogenesis caused by exposure to environmental contaminants, workplace chemicals, and other compounds to provide further support that they are a potential human health risk.

The C3H / hej DEBR mouse and rat models for alopecia areata: a review of preclinical drug screening approaches and results.
The C3H / hej inbred strains of mice and Dundee Experimental Bald Rat (DEBR) strain spontaneously develop adult-onset alopecia areata (AA), a cell-mediated disease directed against actively growing hair follicles. Low frequency of AA and the inability to predict the AA phase as it developed in the model C3H / hej occur naturally from AA can be converted into a system that is very predictable with a full thickness skin grafting of AA-affected mice to normal mice haired same strain.
Model AA mice developing spontaneous DEBR at a higher frequency than in mouse models but they are more expensive to be used in drug studies because of their larger size. Ex vivo gene therapy using intravitreal injection of GDNF-secreting mouse embryonic stem cells in a mouse model of retinal degeneration.
OBJECTIVE
Safe and prolonged drug delivery to the retina is a major obstacle to overcome in the development of new drugs aimed at treating progressive retinal disease. We took advantage of the ability of embryonic stem cells to survive long term in a foreign network and used these cells to deliver molecules to the retina of the rhodopsin neuroprotektan S334ter TGN-4 mouse model of retinitis pigmentosa (RP).
METHOD
Rat embryonic stem (MES) cells, which are derived from pluripotent embryonic stem cell line E14TG2a, genetically engineered to oversecrete derived neurotrophic factor from glial cells (GDNF). cell suspension, containing approximately 200,000 cells and express around 35ng / 10 (6) cells / 24 hours GDNF, is injected into the vitreous cavity of the eye S334ter TGN mice at postnatal day 21 (P21) without immunosuppression. Histological and immunofluorescence imaging is used to evaluate the survival of photoreceptors to P90. RESULTS
